SyncBack backup Windows files and save 10% – 56% off special offer!
I have many things on my Remember The Milk "to do list" – among which include the realization of world peace, eradicating hunger and poverty, seeking a remedy against cancer and save files from my PC. Last week, finally decided to back up files from my PC (the rest will have to wait a little longer long, unfortunately).
I downloaded a program I was looking for a while and called SyncBack I finally asked to do so when I SyncBack described in Lifehacker. Help now I have two hard drives and so I spent the least my backup disk. If you want to backup your files and you do not have a separate unit you need to buy another hard drive or an option may be more easy to buy a USB drive and I connected to a USB port so the copy process provided security. SyncBack recommended that unit of "3 or 4 times the amount of data you want to save." Personally, I think it's a little more on the side but I guess it depends on individual preferences.
There is a free version of SyncBack and a paid version. I'm almost always with the free version (my Scottish blood coating!) and is more than enough for my media.
After installation, you will be asked to make a new profile. When you start, you get an alert message. It is essentially a matter of going through each tab and the settings as you wish. Be careful that everything is exactly as you want. You must specify the drive you want to backup (source) and the drive to send the backup (target).
The parameters are actually very flexible. You can say
* Ignore some folders or file formats. For example, software installations and configuration (Which can be easily replaced if necessary.)
* For bug reports, e-mail (but you need an SMTP server for this)
* Send copies of your backups on an external FTP server (like a private web page) as an attached zip file is password protected. But the great disadvantage of this function is as a zipped attachment file size limit of 4 GB – which is bad news for my 100 GB hard drive.
* A backup copy at a specific time every day. So, all the ends and automated in the background.
Make sure SyncBack is included in the start options each day as mine does not do automatically. Therefore, it was closed for two days and I was wondering why no backups have been occur. You should also check your backup folder or twice a week to ensure that the backup program works as expected.
Incidentally, if you want to keep a backup copy of files online and then go out Mozy. This service is very good too, but if you go with just a free account 2 GB of storage space.
Hopefully the idea of SyncBack download and keep your backup data as the program is free and easy to use. I made the mistake of having poor backup in the past, and I could not regret more. Do not make the same error, and protecting your data! No excuses!
