Software Patents and Free Software $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Opposition to software patents is widespread in the free software community. In response, various mechanisms have been tried to defuse the perceived problem. Patent holders can require infringers of their patents to take out a license to continue using an invention covered by the patent, which may or may not require payment of a fee. Otherwise, the infringer must stop infringing the patent, possibly by removing or modifying the patented feature so that the product no longer infringes. This possibility may be easier with software than other types of inventions since computer program often perform many different functions or a similar result may be achieved in a different, noninfringing manner. Nevertheless, the software may not be useful without the patented feature. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. In the previous article in this series, we discussed the relevance of mathematics in the real world. This time the focus is placed on the narrower field of mental arithmetic games.
Mental calculation involves solving mathematical problems in his head. It is a technique used by teachers to teach math in a fun way. The fact that games of arithmetic is usually done for an activity Group encourages broad participation, with the advantage of friendly rivalry. mental arithmetic can modify an object otherwise boring for many students, it seems more relevant, with the added benefit of allowing children to demonstrate the speed and mental agility.
This article on this issue and show that, beyond teaching the basics of math, mental math games will instruct students in a wide range of concepts mathematics. There is the advantage that confidence comes from being able to solve these problems without using a calculator.
Students will learn different techniques, either by trial and error or by solving simple addition and subtraction. For example, to subtract 12 from 99, the best way is to subtract 12 from 100, 99 is only less than 100, then reduce the responses from 1 to offset the 1 that was added before.
Another technique that games mental math should be taught is the use of "zeroing." This skill will be useful later in life for students, to simplify calculations. For example, the calculation of 1.95 + 3.45 can be done by adding 2 and 3.5 to arrive one-digit quick and easy, and the calculation to arrive at the finest final figure may still be done by the adjustment described in one example, but in this case subtracting 0.1.
However, another quick, easy, and, consequently, the mental process is to gather the numbers, as shown by this simple addition: 4 + 59 + 26 + 11. This can be done the hard way, one digit at a time. But if the values of the first and third are grouped in a similar manner, second and fourth, the part of many decimals are given, which are easy to add (30 +70). This tells us that in order to make a calculation will not affect the final result, at least in these calculations simple example.
There is no deception involved in these exercises mental arithmetic such as the introduction of false leads in the puzzle. For example, giving the speed of trains, then ask about how many people are left in the car after x number I got off at a given station and the number and take, from an initial number of z. However, the disappointment may have a role to play, to teach students useful to separate the irrelevant information.
Games generally involve mental arithmetic concept object and the reality of real world situations, helping students visualize the problems and make the exercise more relevant and understandable. This view is in itself also a mental exercise helps to inculcate in the minds of students that mathematics is not just theory games, but in a rational way to deal with numerical problems the real world throws at them.
