What is the best western US flight to experience turbulence?
The best Ive seen is flying low altitude (below 15,000′) in a single engine piston (Cirrus) along the eastern edge of the rockies near Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and such. Get a day with good winds aloft (20-30 knots at 15,000′) and you will get all the bumps you’d ever want.
One day we were crossing the rockies westbound near Pueblo and due to the mountain waves (rising and sinking air) we were unable to climb over the peaks at some points and had to zig-zag through between the peaks.
Find any mountain range and be on the leeward side when the winds are strong and you will get your turbulence.
