Tampa Best Buy worker’s petition against Thanksgiving hours gains support (St. Petersburg Times)

TAMPA — More than 15,000 people have signed a local Best Buy employee’s
online petition asking the electronics chain to back off making employees work
Thanksgiving Day.
Best Buy, which opens at midnight on Thanksgiving night but hopes to fill its
parking lots with 9 p.m. turkey day screenings of the newest _Harry Potter_
film, says the show will go on because customers prefer late-night to sunrise
promotions.
Posted at change.org, the drive was inspired by similar hands-off-Thanksgiving
petitions filed by Target workers and respectthebird.com after Kmart, Walmart,
Old Navy and Big Lots pushed Black Friday events deeper into Thanksgiving Day
this year.
Ironically, Best Buy decided petition author Rick Melaragni, a 25-year-old
Geek Squad technician at the Citrus Park Best Buy, will not work Thanksgiving,
but start at 7 a.m. Black Friday.
